The RF 100-500 is a "Tiny and light lens" according to Jan Wegener

Jan just posted a new video discussing what he describes (at the end of the video) as his favorite lens. https://youtu.be/6pOCKgS1udk

He describes why he likes it over his larger prime lenses, specifically the 600mm f4. The big advantages are size and weight (ability to hand-hold and move with the subject), less intrusive, and very close minimum focus distance).

With the RF100-500 being by far the largest RF lens I have and carry, I got a chuckle when he described it as "This tiny and light lens" (at: https://youtu.be/6pOCKgS1udk?t=176 ). Maybe he was deliberately hyperbolic, but he says it just in passing like it is a fact that made me laugh.

He makes a good point that the f7.1 vs. f6.3 difference is trivial. Also, you should not be afraid with an R5 to shoot at higher ISOs (particularly with DXO DeepPrime or other software to deal with noise).

In my experience, the RF100-500 is an excellent lens and sharp wide open (so you don't have to stop down). It is also very sharp with the RF1.4x TC, but unfortunately, the limited zoom range with TCs is the R100-500's only serious drawback (my one big gripe).

While I'm not a bird shooter, I find Jan gives great photography advice with clear explanations of how and why. His R5 settings video (https://youtu.be/-nnRqgXu7QI) is excellent for anyone setting up an R5.
