I'm looking for a portrait-suited lens as my third lens for my R5; I currently own the 24-105 f4L and the 16mm STM. Obviously, headshots and head and shoulders portraits are not adequately covered by my setup.

While I'd love to get the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L (or the 85mm f/1.2L), unfortunately it's just out of my budget for now.

What I can afford is the 85mm f/2, or the 100mm f/2.8L. It seems like the former is a better choice as it won't be made redundant if/when I upgrade to the big white; but the 100mm f/2.8L seems to perform better optically.

Will I regret getting the 85mm f2? What would you do if you were in my situation?

i'd consider EF 85 f1.8, it is sharp and performs real well for portrait. price is real reasonable and you can pick one up for $350 as a second hand lens. just an idea.
