I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

Power zoom has been a standard feature of consumer/prosumer camcorders for decades.

It's very useful.   You press a button or rocker, and the lens zooms in or out at a speed that depends on how hard you press.   And maybe some settings.   It's much more stable and precise than rotating a zoom ring.

What's really useful is "creep zoom" - the ability to zoom in or out to recompose very slowly, without losing focus,  so the zoom itself does not distract from the subject, and may not even be noticed by a viewer focussed (pun, sorry) on the subject.
