X-Pro3, "Low light AF down to -6.0 EV" - what does that mean?

Just curious what this phrase means: "Low light AF down to -6.0 EV".

I gather that it means it's "pretty good" compared to previous gen cameras which are, say, "only -1.0 EV", but I'm looking for specifics.

By the numbers, -6.0 to -1.0 would be huge if that meant there are 5 stops difference but I can't see that big a leap happening from one gen to another.   (Otherwise, it should be able to see in near complete darkness.)

But if it isn't "stops", then what is it?
