Hi,

I have been considering this combination. I understand that the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 is the gold standard. However, is the IS on the older EF lens worth considering this combination given that it will also need the EF adapter as well ?

Thanks,

I have both

the EF 35 F2 IS you have to stop down to get as sharp across the frame

so essentially you are losing 2 stops

f/2.2 is very usable, at f/2.8 I don't see a difference with the 32mm

agree, f2.8 is two stops from f1.4 as I said

or Sigma 18-35mm.

get the gold standard

Well, it depends.

imo it depends on what other glass one has

If you're shooting not moving subjects needing some DOF the 35mm is better.

I use my m32 F1.4 on my m6 II wide open most of the time

That's you.

of course

for more dof, I'm switching to my RP + RF 24-105 L

That's a pretty expensive

for me the expense has already been sunk

and not so compact solution to get your stabilization compared to an EF 35mm f/2.0 IS USM slapped on the M6II.

well, the RP is pretty compact too

the thing is, if I need stabilization and dof and low light without motion, I'm taking my RP - eg, museums

With the 32mm you're forced to trade DOF as it's not stabilized.

it is a prime. I bought it to use wide open

Oh common, MAC, that's nonsense and you know it, you're not an amateur.

ok, I'll admit it, I've stopped down a few times

If you need DOF you need DOF, and the ef-m 32mm f/1.4 has aperture blades for a reason. The EF 35mm f/2.0 IS USM gives very sharp results from f/2.8 and pretty usable results from f/2.2, combined with stabilization, and there's no ef-m lens that can do that for you.

I know this well   I extensively used my 35 f2 IS on both my 7d mark II and 6 d for many years

now though, it sits at home as I'm a retiree

The ef-m 28mm f/3.5 is the only ef-m prime with stabilization, and it won't match the EF 35mm at f/2.8 at it's wide open f/3.5 aperture.

yeah, I'll probably skip the m28.  I have the 100L

The R7 has IBIS, but that camera doesn't fit the ef-m 32mm, so the Canon&stabilization blues continues....

true, instead of blues, I'd call it Canon blackout

With the 35mm the IS allows you to get more DOF.

my 35 IS mostly stays glued to my 6d

Mine is pretty much jobless.

mine too - we agree

The wife prefers zooms on the 6D. Women....

that is ok, I prefer my RF 24-105 F4L when shooting my FF

I prefer the 28 or 40mm Art or the 24-70mm f/2.8 on the R5.

mixed bag for me

my #1 go to:  m6II + 32

my #2 go to: RP + RF 24-105 L

my # 3 go to m6II + 11-22

my #4 go to RP + 100 L

Personally I prefer the 35mm in low light when shooting non moving trains for instance. For landscape scenes in low light more DOF is often helpful too.

I don't carry it with my m6II

Same here, but without a full frame option I would.

you know I have FF ... and like you, it doesn't get carried with m6II

If you're using subject/face/eye tracking for unpredictable moving objects the AF of the 35mm is more accurate by the way.

interesting. I'll keep that in mind and maybe give it a try

It will definitely AF better than the RF 50mm f/1.8 stm on the R3

I have no desire to get an RF 50 f1.8 for my RP which needs stopped down for sharpness - I'll reach for my sharp across the frame m6II + 32 every time
