R7 + RF 100-400mm + 1.4 extender?

I recently purchased an EOS R7. I've been shooting mostly with the EOS M6 Mark II until now. One of the lenses I use with the M6 is the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary.

I'm now considering the purchase of a Canon RF 100-400mm for use with the R7. I can (and do) use the Sigma 100-400 on the R7 (with the EF-EOS R adapter), but I'm thinking of getting the Canon 100-400 to use with the R7. One major reason is weight: The Sigma lens weighs about 2.5 pounds and the Canon weighs about 1.4 pounds. The older I get, the less weight I want to carry around (that was one reason I switched to crop-frame cameras to begin with).

I would appreciate any input as to whether the purchase would be worth it. What would I gain over the Sigma; what would I lose (besides money, of course )?

On a related question, would a Canon 1.4X extender (or a 2X extender, for that matter) work well with this combination? I occasionally indulge in bird photography, and the added reach could sometimes come in handy.
