Shooting the Moon is actually easy. However, for best quality the required equipment is not easily available at hands of most people (long telephoto, proper tripod, etc..)

The Moon is very bright so exposure is not a concern, what is more important though is a proper sturdy tripod. Also, in my experience while shooting a rising full moon seems exciting, that's not going to give you the best quality due to atmospheric condition at lower angles, unless you are including surroundings as part of the overall photo.

If you care about details like craters and shadows, shooting the moon at waxing/waning phases and as close to zenith as possible, that will get you the best quality (assuming proper camera settings are used).
