Works for me with manual lenses. No chip needed. I also use E-M1. I don't remember if there's a way to have peaking always on, but I have mapped peaking to one of the buttons on the front of the camera (to the right of the lens, (my right, when I'm holding the camera to my eye) and magnification to the other button. That is, I need to press that button to trigger peaking.

I warning about peaking though. It seems to "peak" for everything contrasty, not only what you want to focus on. I know many people swear by it, but I think it sucks. Magnification is better, but has the disadvantage that you have to recompose. At least I do. My dream is that we could have the focus aids of old film SLR cameras. So quick and accurate.
