My experience is on the RP, but I rented the 600 for a vacation and now own the 100-400. For me, there wasn’t enough difference in AF to worry about. The 100-400 is definitely snappier. It goes goes from out of focus to in focus in a snap.

As far as owning, I value the versatility of the zoom range. If I want close to the same reach and keep the versatility, someday I can add the 1.4x and end up with 560mm at f/11 at the long end. With the ability to step down (not that I’d ever do it).
