As the author of the article hints, many photographers out there are more interested in having up to date equipment than being loyal to a format or brand.

Once people realised dslrs are "old", they immediately got rid of them. Nobody likes being associated with obsolete equipment. A phone is better even if the IQ is downgraded, just as long as it is the latest model. Because only new phones are cool. You get the logic at play here.

I got rid of my dslr in 2012 and traded it for a compact, it was easier to carry. I never regretted the decision but dslr are undoubtedly more enjoyable to use than any compact or mirorless camera, this being the reason i recently bought a canon 100D to keep around. The shooting experience is great as always(with the right lens of course).
