Hey there folks, I wanna hear your experience with 600mm f4 af lenses regarding autofocus on newer bodies (R6 and R7).

I´m a wildlife photographer and I´ve always wanted a 600mm f4 but I´m unable to afford a new one so I´m scouring ebay for the 600 f/4L IS USM and f/4L IS II USM versions. I know the weight differences and will probably decide for the IS II version, but also wanted to know your experiece with the aufotocus with these cameras.

Also if you have advice on what to check for before buying a used version.

Thanks!

i have had my canon 600 f4 II since 2013 and it an awesome big lens. the only issue is if you want to handhold this lens. the weight of it is not much of an issue but it is awkward when you want to focus for more than a few minutes. therefore, you must use a tripod or a monopod, which can put restrain on lens movement of the camera/lens if you are shooting small birds, or moon for that reason. this lens takes TC 1.4 III quite well when you get used to it.

i have been using my 600mm with my FF cameras and that is the reason why i'll be getting the new R7 that will make perfect couple, methinks. if you can find a 600mm II for a good price that you can afford, jump on it, you'd love it.
