Hi. I have my heart set on the M6 II (from this range) and my original question was whether I should get the kit which includes 15-45mm lens and EVF, or to just buy the body and one lens as a start . As a start means spending around £1000-1200 but I can add more lenses later.

Buying the body only and a good first lens (whatever that may be) would mean missing out on the EVF in the kit, but I've heard mixed things about the 15-45mm kit lens so was interested to hear people's views. The benefit of the kit is you get the EVF but if people think the lens is not great than perhaps I go without the kit and the EVF.

Yes my photography to date is family and travel, and I still want to do that but at the same time have a camera that feel like a step up and allows me to develop my photography in new ways.

I've got some really helpful views from people on here, including you, so thank you.

I am also considering the R10 from what some have sad as being a longer-term alternative but I don't know enough about that yet. Might wait to it comes out fully and check the review out.

If you were in the USA, the M6 II kit with the EVF and 18-150mm lens would be an easy recommendation, but that kit does not appear to be an option in the UK. Beside the copy variation issues and general lackluster image quality, the other problems with the 15-45mm are that it offers a shorter zoom range than you are getting from your G7X II and the apertures are so slow that you also lose most of the low light advantages of the larger image sensor.

You could buy everything separately, but that gets expensive and might be easier said than done. Wex has the M6 II body for £799. The EF-M 18-150mm lens is going for £459, but appears to be out of stock everywhere in the UK. The M6 II and 18-150mm would be a good combination, but it is pushing the top end of your budget and you would not have the EVF.

If you are willing to consider "used" gear, I was able to put together a kit at MPB with the M6 II, 18-150mm, and EVF-DC2 for £1,207.00 with everything in "excellent" condition.
