I have kids and get plenty of excellent action shots with my M50. We have to be careful about recommending our own personal favorite instead of what's best for his use cases. My opinion is that it's a waste of potential to get the M6II with only the 15-45 lens. Yes, he can buy more lenses later, but how many good shots would he missing in the mean time? Also, even "good" copies of the 15-45 have poor IQ on the long end, where he'll want to be for portraits of his kids. They'll be soft with bland colors and low contrast. Probably worse than what he gets out of his G7X II. He'd be much better served to get that M50II kit with 15-45, 55-200, and add the Sigma 30mm like MAC suggested.

Hi. I have my heart set on the M6 II (from this range) and my original question was whether I should get the kit which includes 15-45mm lens and EVF, or to just buy the body and one lens as a start . That would mean missing out on the EVF but I've heard mixed things about the kit lens so was interested to hear people's views. The benefit of the kit is you get the EVF but if people think the lens is not great than perhaps I go without the kit and the EVF.

Yes my photography to date is family and travel, and I still want to do that but at the same time have a camera that feel like a step up and allows me to develop my photography in new ways.

I've got some really helpful views from people on here, including you, so thank you.

I am also considering the R10 from what some have sad as being a longer-term alternative but I don't know enough about that yet. Might wait to it comes out fully and check the review out.

Thanks again.

If you're set on the M6II, then I think you might as well get the kit with the EVF and lens. You basically get the lens for free at that point, and it does have its uses (mine is decent at about 35mm and below especially if stopped down, and that's similar to what I've read from a lot of other people too). Plus you might always get a good copy. Just bear in mind that you really should save for at least another lens or two afterwards to get the most out of the camera.
