Who is more "prepared": the one going out with one prime - or The Greg with his 16+ lenses?

The Greg has sadly left the playing field, (no, not dead but off dpreview!) but for those who remember him: he had all lenses there were to be had under the sun and would constantly shoot 3000+ frames per day . Hard to believe but true ...

I had a soft spot for him because of his enthusiasm and his extreme attitudes towards owning everything and shooting everything.

At the other end of The Greg spectrum there is a comfortably populated group who either shoot with one prime only or chose a fixed focal length camera, like the X100 or one of the more ridiculously priced cousins. Also opting for a single focal length.

Forget cropping for a moment.

I asked myself on occasion who IS more prepared? The one taking a short tele, because he/she wants to shoot portraits - or the one taking the lot? Just in case. The parrot that leaves the appartment Jim Morrison used to stay at in Paris. And you fogot the 300/2.8 or never had one in the first place.

You know, you don't need to take a photo of everything.

Prepared for me means to shoot with intent and not so much about being prepared for any possible constellation, Jacqueline Kennedy meeting Big Foot in the clearing and all that ...

In short: thinking about simplifying my gear. Be prepared for less, but shoot with more intent.

A case of choice fatigue.
