Oh, absolutely, the NX1 is technically miles ahead of the Galaxy NX. So is the NX500. The Galaxy is slow as heck and to restart it from idle is glacial. It's hard to change settings quickly and there are no dedicated function buttons that can be programmed. It has a beautiful grip and great screen and awesome Bluetooth transfer. But most everything else about it almost sucks compared to newer cameras and I would imagine the NX1 as well, which is classes ahead technically. But I'll be darned if some of my most breathtaking images didn't come from the Galaxy NX (breataking to me that is not sure if others would agree, I'm probably just a mediocre photographer). And I own a Ricoh GR and GXR, Fuji Xf10, Fuji Xpro 1, Panasonic G9 and GM1. All with a variety of lenses and lensors. And more Samsung NXs. I was soooo close to selling the Galaxy NX a few times but then comparing it to my NX500, I can't deny that the Galaxy just beats it, at least in Jpeg output. There is a 3D thing in there I just cannot achieve with my NX500.
But you have to go with your gut, and if having sold the Galaxy NX feels good, you did the right thing. I sold my Pentax gear even though my models and lenses were praised as standout cult items. I just didn't feel it. I think the beauty is that there are cameras out there that hit the right spot for different people. I personally can't do Nikon, their color science and rendering just does not gel with me. It's very likely brilliant but I cannot personally see the wow factor.
I will have to get my hands on an NX1. I hear the output is very comparable to the NX500, but maybe there's some fairy dust in there I'm not aware of.
You're absolutely right, there is something magical about the output of the GNX. However, I shoot a lot of video so it seemed a waste not using the GNX when the NX1 does a better job in this regard.
Some of the shortcomings of the GNX were;
No 4k video, no DIS, it sort of has a mic jack but only automatic volume control, doesn't work with all NX lenses (namely 50-150mm, there may be others),.
Also, despite it being a great connected camera, Samsung really under specced that aspect of it, even given that it was released several years ago. It was stuck on the same version of Android, didn't have much RAM (I had issues with messaging apps)and the onboard storage was low (although supported micro SD). When I first owned the GNX back in 2015 the android experience was better, but this time around I've had issues with certain apps and found it to be quite clunky.
Despite all of this, I still love the camera and there is nothing else like it, plus it produces some awesome skills. If it wasn't for the NX1 it'd still be in my armoury.
Now I'm just waiting for another eBay sellers offer and the NX500 will be sold...
