I don't disagree.

I'm simply pointing out the error in thinking that somehow f/1.4 is some magically difficult aperture to obtain focus at due to shallow depth of field.  I'd also be very surprised if the camera to bird distance is 2 feet.  Probably more like 3 feet.

But yeah, shallow DOF is absolutely not the reason the camera didn't get the focus correct in these examples.
