Can the XH2S be a street photography camera

The summary answer is YES.

A question you didn’t ask is should the XH2S be used for street photography? As mention by several responders, any camera can be used for street photography. Speaking for myself, when I’m doing street photography one of the primary factors in selecting which body to take with me is weight. I walk the street for hours. I don’t want my neck and shoulders to cry because I’m schlepping a heavy body. The same consideration is used when selecting a lens.

Traditionally a small body and lens is what many street shooters routinely use. A small body and lens, as also mentioned, will not make you invisible. Maybe only HCB was able to accomplish that trick. A small body and lens is less intrusive. It doesn’t scream professional photographer.

I’m not planning on purchasing an XH2S. I don’t need the feature set it provides. I also don’t want to spend what the body will cost. That is fine. No body is the answer for all photographers. I have several, maybe too many, bodies to choose from when I hit the street. The XPRO3. Of course. XT30. Sure. XT3/4. Not likely, but possible, if I want to do some short video clips. For me even these bodies are too bulky. It is all subjective. An X100S/T is perfect.

Not asked for but the lens. I have the 1.4 23&35 but I’m not playing with these lenses. For a long day out it is the crons. 23 and/or the 35. Maybe the 50 as a 2nd lens for contrast. Maybe on a 2nd body. I love the 18-55 kit lens. Especially for the multitude of focal lengths and OIS. That said, I prefer the discipline of zooming in and out with my feet.

So can you use the XH2S for street photography? Most certainly. Is it the ideal instrument for street photography? No. Ultimately, you carry your gear so you get to select what will accompany you on the street.
