I checked the 4 small screws holding the black plate to the lens collar, and they were tight, so the small amount of wiggle is coming from the main screw. I do carry the camera with a pistol grip from an old monopod attached to a Jobu plate designed for this lens. From some of the comments I have read, carrying the camera like this may have caused some of the wiggle. I have also read on older threads in this forum and on other forums that this is not that uncommon of a problem for this lens, even for some not carrying the lens is a manner that might introduce some torque. Seems like Canon could have done a better job in the design as the rest of the lens is great. BTW, I have a Canon 400mm prime lens that I have used for years, and never had this problem with the lens collar/foot designed for that lens.

Orb . . .

interesting. i have turned my 100-400 lens' foot upside down so i can carry it easier - and it helps. but i haven't experienced any looseness in the foot of my lens, i need to check and see if there is any issue with my lens.
