You guys might need better viewing devices and/or viewing conditions. Dune, The Long Night, and the new Batman all look great on my LG G1 OLED TV. The amount of legible detail these DPs are placing in the mid to low shadows is an impressive testament to their craft: I would have a hard enough time doing that on a still photo, never mind an entire movie.

Dune is also hardly the darkest movie out there. The finale of the Bad Batch on DIsney+ is also very impressive for how much of it lives in the shadows, and the cinematography taste level for a CGI cartoon is uniquely high.
