Z9 Focus Issue on small reptiles.
2

Today i was starting a drip irrigation system when I saw a couple of different lizards running around. I got the camera out with 100-400S lens and began shooting. I got as close as I could without scaring them and then start shooting.

After the first few images I started having trouble focusing on the lizards. I used Wide S, Wide L, single point and the camera would not focus on the lizards. I tried focusing on something else and then refocusing, I tried moving farther away and closer but nothing worked. I then decided to manually focus and get the images I wanted.

Is this a contrast thing or something else. The camera is focusing great on objects and animals farther away and even on objects about the same distance as the lizards were.

There is no cropping and the images went through LR and were converted from RAW to Jpeg.

Autofocus worked perfectly here.  Camera was in DX mode

manual focus, FX

manual focus.  FX

manual focus.    FX
