HI Ian,

Well, tuck it away for a later time. The picture I posted today was shot in my studio but it wasn't lit in any special way. If fact, it was very difficult lighting! The scene shows the right side of my work area lit by warm sunlight coming down from a high skylight above and large window wall 20 feet behind me full of northern bkue light. The manual "averaging" of  the RGB channels in the highlight region displayed in the right side of a histogram was developed in time, and after studying R. W. G. Hunt's book, The Reproduction of Colour. It was Hunt who pointed to the difficulty of identifying "which" white sample to use when balancing color.
