New Z 400 4.5 makes 300 Pro look porky

The new Nikon Z mount 400mm f4.5 is a tiny bit longer but noticably lighter (100 plus grams or about 4 oz) than the Oly 300 Pro f4.0. The filter size of the Nikon is 95mm vs 77mm, so the glass is noticably bigger... glass is heavy, so how can the Nikon lens be so much lighter? Maybe an all magnesium, or a composite (carbon/ plastic) chassis? The Nikon is not even a Fresnel design... that would probably have made it noticably even smaller than the already amazingly short length.

So a m43 400mm f4.5 could be even a bit lighter than the Z as the required image circle is much smaller. Even a 500mm f4.5 now seems like it could be a very hand holdable option for m43 if a similar design concept to the Z 400 is realised... and without even needing a Fresnel design.

Thoughts... ?

Credit to whoever said that first and my wife for saying it to me... Make the best you can of every day!
