Yes, very good point about air over distance, especially in certain climatic conditions. I don't have too much of a problem in this regard in the UK, but I can image on an African safari (I was last in Kenya a few years ago with Olympus kit) I can imagine the impact of heat shimmering influencing the look of an image if the subject is some distance away.

Given Alan's safari images, he may have a better view.
