Hi R2,

Thanks for the great reply. I do have intention to purchase the long telephoto lens if I find it suitable. Some of my considerations was if I would be porting over to the Eos R mount camera in future an native Canon lens would work better.

The 100-400ii pairs very well with the newer R bodies, and the R7 is garnering a LOT of excitement among nature photographers.

I guess I will need to loan the EF 100-400mm F4.5 to 5.6 L II lens to test it out. I had also considered a 1.4X TC with the EF 100-400 mm and that would made the focal length very similar to the Sigma 150-600MM but price of this combo would be at least 2 times the price of the Sigma 150-600mm. Does the EF 100-400MM autofocus works well with the M6 MK II when the 1 4x TC is attached to it? Is it slow?

There is no enforced AF slowdown with a 1.4x with mirrorless bodies like there was with DSLRs. AF with this combo on the M6ii is fast and sure (I only use Spot AF). Your technique does have to be perfect though in order to see any resolution benefit.

Also, plan on getting an EVF to use with these longer lenses.

Hi R2, could you share some more pictures of photo taken by the M6 MK II with EF 100-400mm? Also do you have an photo of the EF 100-400mm with M6 Mk II and TC to have an rough idea of the size of the combination? Greatly appreiate your sharing. Thanks.

I don’t have anything immediately at hand right now, as I’m working on a big assignment for the university (wading through 3000 photos worth). The 100-400ii is BIG on the M6ii (though not quite as large as the Sigma!). “Camera Size.com” can be helpful…

I highly recommended replacing the tripod foot with something like the Really Right Stuff foot, as it makes carrying the lens around much more pleasant. Most of your support (when shooting) will come from your left hand, with your right basically just guiding the combo. And like I mentioned earlier, you’ll need an EVF.

Here’s a 100% crop from the 100-400ii on the M6ii. It’s not processed, and there is ZERO sharpening done either in-camera or in post conversion. You can copy it and run it through an editing program if you’d like…

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your advise. Just wondering if you had shot with the Canon M6 mark II + EF 100 to 400mm L II in raw burst mode before? This would provide an 2.1x overall focal length crop thus making it a 210 to 820mm focal length. Will the 18MP image still be as good? The reason I am asking is because if this combination works well I would like to save on the 1.4x TC.

May I also ask your opinion on the EVF-DC1 viewfinder? I researched that the EVF-DC2 viewfinder is the upgraded version of the EVF-DC1. However, l am only able to find the EVF-DC1 viewfinder available at my area. Was thinking to just get the EVF-DC1 if they provide identical optics as it is pretty difficult to source for the EVF-DC2 from my area and online (seems to be out of stock on most website). Is the better color and contrast in the EVF-DC2 negligible? Will I be able to use the touch screen when the EVF-DC1 viewfinder is been attached to the M6 Mark II?

Edit: found an used EVF-DC2, wonder if it will have any issues.

Thank you.
