At one time, back in England, true inflation was measured by the price of a Mars bar.

I also remember when a box of matches contained on average 50 of them ...

When I was a kid, Mars bars went for 7p - although by the time you made it to the counter it would be 8p. current inflation at 11% seems like old times.

Sainsburys are selling them for 65p at the moment. I think back in the days when I actually bought 7p mars bars, my pocket money was 25p a week. That would have been five bob in your day, Ted

I have set of ordinary "old money" from 1940, my year of birth, from a farthing up to a half-crown.

No crown, paper notes or Maundy money though.

Anybody got a 1940 crown? Were they even made that year?

I have a Jubilee crown - silver jubilee
