In 1995 I paid about $600 for a new Canon 100-300mm L.  Assuming 3% inflation, that lens is worth about $1100 today.

For $1100, you cannot buy a Canon lens that has a better practical IQ.  I won't help you sell any more prints.

Sometimes progress is in other areas where it won't make much of a difference, especially to amateurs.

P.S. I still use that lens.
