Canon R5 off-body flash question

Hi everyone,

I am using the R5 and an off-body 580 EXII for macro and bird photography and I am getting tired of having to replace flash cords once every year or so as they all tend to break (Canon and third party options). I am wondering what other options I might have.

I don't want to spend hundreds on setting up a wireless control, but I haven't had much luck investigating what these options might be. I don't think there is a way to control TTL via a camera signal - is this correct? What about add-on wireless controllers? Can you give me a few options here?

Can I do something like this with the 580, or would I need to upgrade to the 600?

I'm new at these wireless options and I appreciate the help. I looked into the old Canon controller that uses IR/light but read that doesn't work very well in bright outdoor conditions.

Thanks

Canon EOS R5
