Re: General ZS100 vs ZS200 compact question

When I was deciding I took my Canon SX50 and walked around for an hour or so consciously shooting the same subjects at the equivalent maximum zoom for both cameras -- 250 and 360 -- to get a sense which I preferred. I also took shots with my unzoomed phone camera for comparisons too.

I like taking photos of details of buildings and art, and I like being able to shoot people from a distance to avoid getting in their space and having them react to the camera (probably a habit learned from taking photos of my kids). I decided the extra zoom of the zs200 was right for me. I take it most days on walks and l think it's a nice mix of portability, zoom and quality.

You may want to do the same with your FZ300 -- go somewhere that has a vague similarity to what you might see in Europe, like a church or block with a couple of stores and restaurants, and just shoot at those ranges. An hour may help clarify things even if the subjects aren't as picturesque.

Other things people have mentioned may matter more in the end, but I found having a clear comparisons of the zoom ranges very helpful, even though it was a different camera and wouldn't be a perfect comparison.
