I must have bought your 17-35 f/2.8 or similar. I bought it on eBay. It doesn't have any tight spot or any AF squealing noise. But it has 2 clicks on the zoom ring as if you are turning a combination lock. Other than that the lens performs well, one of the sharpest lens I've ever used.
Do you realize this post was from 2007?
I do realize this post was originally posted in 2007. I got mine on eBay about a year ago. I used to shoot with a 16-35 f/4, a very nice lens as well.
I have the same lens and it's one of the best Nikkor. That's why it's still making these days.
The 17-35, is very sharp. My copy has some clicking sound when zooming but still produces very sharp images. I didn't plan on buying it but eBay made me as I put it on watch list the seller gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. Now with all those newer lenses, the price of this 17-35 seems falling quite a bit. Good for me.
