Will you see the difference at small prints? i think in color and contrast yes, in sharpness i doubt. At 100%, even on the camera display for sure!

In the end, it is all about what you are willing to spend on this hobby

24-105 f4 is considerably sharper compared to the other one, and that is my experience as well. the best way is to put both shots next to each other and then you'll notice the difference.

i can understand that is just a hobby, but if that is the case, i'd settle for a P&S and have fun. but if you are a serious hobbyist, then things do cost a little more for critical tasks - it is all up to the individual.
