thanks for the help with the 4TB hard drive, should be coming in soon.

i need to add 2 4TB hard drives to this old PC and need some more sata ports. probably the best way is to just pop in a pci-e sata card into an open pci-e slot, which just happens to be a pci-e video card slot that is unused.

so i looked on amazon and found a card with a heat sink and cables.

looks to be good as they advertise Gen 3, so may do well with speed for my new WD blue drive.

also found a wiring kit with a bracket for an SSD, which is just dangling inside the pc for now, but is cooler that way i spose.

do you think this will work well, or should i look at something better?

That looks like a good card. I added the following card to one of my systems. I decided on this one because it was known to work with TrueNAS: IO CREST 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 3.0 x1 Expansion Card Non-Raid with Low Profile Bracket ASMedia 1064 SI-PEX40156 : Everything Else
