I look at this survey result with interest mainly because it tells me how the forum members utilize their m system. The results suggest majority use the m with another presumably canon full frame ef or rf system, as enthusiasts or working pros.

I'm not sure about that. Many have posted that they could not vote. Either there was no option for them or the author had added some text they could not agree with (me included). So this is not a "fair" poll.

I myself am an enthusiast and have only used the m6ii along side my cell phone camera. My use case is to capture family and travel moments. I do have a couple of longer zooms for zoos and birds but they don't get as much use. So for me the m has been perfect for size and iq as well as being inconspicuous. The m system is tailor made for someone like me

and this I suspect is their intended market but will probably keep shrinking with phones getting better and better.

I think they are about to reach a limit now or very soon. I can't see that a phone will ever be as good as an APS-C camera. And I think many will still want a "real camera" (being large or small) for the good feeling and experience. It could be a grip, an EVF, buttons and dials, interchangeable lenses, a tilt screen etc.

The way I see it, the problem with apsc as a format is that there is a dichotomy in use cases. For the m system, the use case is for small and light but not necessarily fast unless using small primes. The other use case for apsc is pixel density for long focal range wildlife and macro. This means attaching heavy long lenses that doesn't balance well with the m cameras. So for the new rf apsc cameras, they are designed with this use case in mind, with bigger grips etc. One use case requires a small body and the other requires a bigger body for balance.

I agree with most of that, but I don't actually see that as the problem.

I suspect rf apsc will only have slow apsc zooms as the intended use case is to attach the long focal length lenses. For everything else Canon will want you to get the rf full frames.

I think Canon make a big mistake if they let down all the people who want small, light and affordable cameras and lenses (and still very good IQ) and a mount that has the right size for an APS-C camera (= M-system) .

I would still hope Canon will still release new bodies for the m.

I think they will. (If not, I will call them stupid. )

There is still a place for fast reliable af to capture running kids but I suspect that will be down to demand. I don't think they'll release any more lenses for the m.

I hope you are wrong. And I also hope for more 3rd party lenses with af.

Very much agree with everything you’ve said. There’s still a spot for Small, Light, and Affordable in the Canon world.

Regardless of what Canon wants, Canon needs to have something to compete with Fuji X100 and X-E4 and at the moment the closest Canon has to that thing is M6 mk II and M200.

Obviously not a fan of the very capable M50 and M50 Mk2 - must be the built-in EVF or a dislike for flashguns perhaps? 😂

I would own M50 mk II if I didn't own EOS R and I owned M50 before.

I'm still intrigued about why you decided to list the m6 mkii and M200 as the only M-cameras that Canon has to compete with Fuji. Surely you are not suggesting that the M200 is a better camera than the M50 Mkii? 🤣🤣🤣

I am basing it on formfactor, M50 is matched with Fuji X-T200 and the new R10 with X-S10 and both kind of with X-T30.

After having discontinued M6 mk II, Canon has nothing to offer the crowd that would otherwise go out and buy X-E4 or X100.

This is maybe not a huge market but this is still a sizable portion of the still buying cameras demography that no camera company can ignore.

I was considering both the M50 mk II and M6 mk II and went with the M6 mk II because there is simply something about the M3 and M6 that makes them simply irresistible.

Not very long ago, I took a closer look at the X-E4 to see if it was a usable alternative for me. Then I discovered that you could not shoot from waist level (with the screen tilted out 90 degrees) without the screen changing to selfie mode (upside down).

And there has been no firmware update to fix this (as I know of). So, nope. This camera was not for me.
