I used to own 24 f/1.4L, don't recall the ff corners but I remember having used it more with aps-c.

Look, 24mm wide open, some design choices could have been made, but 24mm wide open is not the same as 18mm f/3.5 on crop.

If corner sharpness is that important to you, you might have a look at the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L, the Sigma 24-35mm f/2.0 Art, the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 Art.

or RF 24-105 F4 L

this is the third L version of the 24-105 from Canon and the best on the planet

How did Gordon Laing then manage to get 2 dogs of that lens 12 months apart?

To date no-one has managed to counter his 2 reviews of the rf 24-105L even after frequent requests.

If weight is a concern there are also the 24&28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses. These might be not as good as the other ones, but still not bad, especially stopped down a bit.

I like my 24 IS

Storm's EF 24 - 70 F2.8 II and my RF 24-105 F4L are later year updates that solve the issues you are complaining about on FF
