I went to the camera store to try a few light zoom lenses for my "new" A7RII. My main interest was Sigma 24-70 Art, but they didn't have a demo, so I tried 28-70.I absolutely love the size and build, that's it.

Lens was sopy and soft at 28mm 2.8at 28mm is unusable, due to barrel distortion no one talks about here. If you shoot portraits you might get away with it, but if you travel and shoot any architecture... I still can't correct those images properly in lightroom, There are literally waves at 28mm. And what's worse, those waves are not symmetrical, the left side is stronger than the right size. At 35m it gets a bit better and at 50mm it bends in another direction, warps inwards. Store had a wall with straight horizontal lines to hang shelves on it, it looked insanely distorted. at 28m and another direction at 50mm.I don't have any brand loyalty or bashing on purpose but those distortions are way too strong.

I will try Tamron in the next few days

I'm transitioning from old 5dmkii and 24-70 2.8L, 16-352.8L, 85mm1.2L,  100mm 2.8 Macro L, 8-18m f4 L fisheye, 50mm 1.4 to A7RII mainly for low light street photography and to be able to travel light.

look at the countertop and top of the image, I just can't imagine shooting any builtings/churches with this lense at 28mm...my fisheye has less distortion...

50mm wraps inwards...
