This exactly. If one doesn’t use any exotic codecs, Kyno might be still useful. Before the Signiant acquisition Kyno supported BRAW gen 4 color science, but then BM updated to gen 5 CS and Kyno did not show the footage anymore. Now they have had a beta programme ongoing, and it supports BRAW gen 5. Unfortunately the basic file operations (copy, paste) are unreliable in beta. I still use Kyno frequently even it is far from the perfect solution.
