Re: The "nifty 50"

I've always used a DX body, D90 initially and now a D500. So my "nifty 50" is the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX lens. I bought it when I bought my D90, and it's still my #1 prime lens, and in contention for my #1 lens overall.

I also bought an actual 50mm after about 18 months, as a result of plotting the focal lengths I used with my D90's 18-105mm lens. That 50mm f/1.8D is my second-banana prime and the #3 lens in my bag.

I live, photographically, in the normal to portrait-telephoto focal lengths, with a fat tail at the telephoto end and practically no use for wide angle. I see myself as a "small picture" guy, as opposed to the 'big picture' sorts who gravitate to wide wide angle and extreme telephoto lenses, and who often consider my preferred normal to portrait-telephoto range to be a dead zone.
