I did notice this when I first got my R5 last September..

DSLRs had AF sensors in the OVF which must read off the bottom of the prism, like the metering.Perhaps the R5 does no AF from the sensor, but does what DSLRs did, reading off the EVF screen. Otherwise why the dependence on exposure and Picture style. Live view seemed not to use the OVF AF, it was independent and the DSLR AF had to be adjusted to match Live view.

It also might explain how Canon recalibrated my R,5 to my lenses.Not wholly successful, but they can do a DSLR style AFMA, as the Canon tech suggested to me, but would not call it that.

It is possible that the R3 and its juniors work completely differently from the R5 and R6.
