Now that they're fleshing out the lineup with the numbered R cameras, they can just retire the R. The R was the $2kish full frame competitor to the a7iii and Z6. The R6 is now doing that role. You can say the R6 has effectively replaced the R.

They will update the R6 (as with the R5). So the question then is how will Canon update their $2kish camera to compete against Sony's $2kish a7iv.
