1of1images Macro Thread

Figured I would start one thread and not gum-up the whole forum with my individual posts....

My setup for those who don't know is:

  • Camera:  OM-1 (or previously the EM1 Mark 2 or 3)
  • Teleconverter:  MC-14 or MC-20
  • Lens:  Olympus 60mm f2.8 Macro
  • Macro Filter:  Raynox 250, 202, or 505 depending on the situation
  • Lighting:  Godox126 LED on Hotshoe for constant lighting or no extra in the outdoors
  • Diffuser:  One of those cheap $5 flex diffusers

I use Helicon for my stacking, 99% of the time using Method C.  Focus bracketing ranges from 1/10 for indoors controlled environment stuff, and up to 3/10 for outdoors getting quick shots of fast moving or at least constantly wanting to move subjects.  I will use 1/10 outdoors too, especially with spider webs and dew drops.  Snowflakes is usually 2/10.  I will also do the occasional internal stack of 15 images in-camera using the focus stacking software Olympus cameras come with.

I only shoot JPEG.  I do not use raw at all.  I have taught myself all my photography and never have taken any training...just some reading here and there on this page and some Olympus Facebook pages.

I came up with the idea 4 years ago to use the teleconverters with the Olympus macro lens by using a 16mm extension tube to connect them together.  For the MC-20, I initially used a PIXCO 16mm extension tube, hollowing out the inside of it some to allow the teleconverter lens to fit inside which allows it to perfectly line up with the 60mm Macro lens for about 2.4x magnification when lens is set at 1:1.  I then found last year that you can use the KENKO extension tube if you take that extension tube, line up the dots with your teleconverter and tube and push firmly and then turn as you are pushing.  It is a better combination as the KENKO is a much better extension tube and the fit is tighter.  It will not work with the MC-14, however.  With the MC-14 the Pixco is the way to go.

I will answer any and all questions posed to me about my work.  I have tried to be as helpful as possible in years past, and estimate well over 200 people are using the teleconverter setup for their macro work based on PMs and posts on my threads.

I would encourage you to follow my work on FB here:

or Instagram here

I did just get a website up and will be adding more to it soon...

Much more to add to this page, and always feel free to make a post here to ask any questions.
