More resolution. IBIS. Stacked CMOS. Moderate performance and video bumps. I'll buy it.

Sounds a lot like the R5?

The R5 is a 45MP speed demon that shoots 8K.  Don't we all know how Canon differentiates their market segments by now?

No, they wouldn't make a $2,300 camera with the R5 sensor.  That's nuts.  But 35MP?  Or even, as I speculated elsewhere, a 30MP BSI sensor with increased dynamic range sound like something Canon would do.

There's no way they would add all that to an R mkII at it's current price point (if they even make one).

IBIS is apparently now standard.  But, maybe not.  The stacked CMOS is incorrect, but BSI seems possible.

The current resolution is quite good already... really it's the AF system/tracking that is lacklustre now when you compare to every other R-body aside from the RP.

So a 30MP BSI would be perfect.

And I find the electronic shutter not very consistent with its results in terms of reliably producing artifact-free images. These are the top two improvements I would look for.

Of course, most people seem to think no successor will be coming, which I find unfortunate, because I don't really find anything in the current lineup a logical replacement without a SIGNIFICANT increase in one's budget.

Moderate spec bumps and the occasional big leap within the same line at the same prices is what Canon does.  The price point wasn't set accidentally.  Canon isn't going to abandon that point....although they could meld the RP and R into a.....no, there's way too much space between those two.
