More resolution. IBIS. Stacked CMOS. Moderate performance and video bumps. I'll buy it.
Sounds a lot like the R5? There's no way they would add all that to an R mkII at it's current price point (if they even make one).
The current resolution is quite good already... really it's the AF system/tracking that is lacklustre now when you compare to every other R-body aside from the RP. And I find the electronic shutter not very consistent with its results in terms of reliably producing artifact-free images. These are the top two improvements I would look for.
Of course, most people seem to think no successor will be coming, which I find unfortunate, because I don't really find anything in the current lineup a logical replacement without a SIGNIFICANT increase in one's budget.
I agree, Nikon and Sony both have multiple FF options below the 2500€$ level. I cannot see Canon giving that market away to them. Or just say, well, if you cannot afford 2500, then go APS-C. Why would they have developed the 16mm 2.8, 24-105STM, if they were going to leave that market open.
It can be though that on the long run the R6 will come down in price and an RP successor will come inbetween the current RP and the R6.
It's just that the R6 feels like high speed speciality camera, while I would expect a true 6d successor an enthousiast slower FF. So I find the R6 position in the market quite strange.
Maybe there is room for a R successor with something like improved 30MP sensor, IBIS, Digic X (so faster focussing), 6 to 8 fps, 4k30p with little crop (1.1 to 1.2 max). If they could bring that to the market at 2200 to 2400 €$ it could be a winner. It would come down in price to 2k as soon as shipshortages are gone (~2025).
One just knows that Cannon will not directly compete with Nikon and Sony when it comes to specs, they always seem to place their models just inbetween. So 30MP with 4k30p from the whole sensor with 10 fps in photo would make it a s7IV, which would cost half a grand extra.
Just my thought. Hope you enjoy your day.
