It's important to note that all of the people opining that Canon will not release a successor to the R are, in fact, just stating an opinion. Also an opinion is that Canon rushed the R out the door to ward off competition, as proof of concept, to sell RF lenses, or other conjecture that stems from collective herd opinion on forums and elsewhere but has been substantiated nowhere by Canon itself.

That was very gentle and diplomatic of you. I'd go one better: people had an unrealistic expectation that a Canon FF ILC would blow us all out of the water and it was THAT disappointment that leads to all of the speculation about "rushed" and never getting an update.

I personally was not disappointed even a little. A cheaper, better, smaller 5DIV? Sold.

I just got one last fall and I am pretty happy with it.

In short, nobody knows nuttin except those who work at Canon and have knowledge of the history and planning of the company's mirrorless cameras.
