I think they indeed need ( perhaps in 1- 2 years ) a successor.

In Europe the R6 is 2300 euro for the body, the R is 1600 and RP is 1000 euro. So having a full frame range starting with a 2300 euro body will not lure in many people moving into full frame ( and being motivated to buy RF lenses ).

In my view the RP was always more a 6dii replacement.

with the wide range of less expensive FF RF lenses, i would expect also FF R bodies in the 1000 and 1500 price bracket.

Canon could even ‘reuse’ the exact R7 and R10 bodies and fit FF sensors. Drop a bit the FPS rate and you have a RP and R mark ii !

keep also in mind the typical life span of 1D, 5D, 6D and 7D is 4-6 years !
