I’m evaluating a used super telephoto, and the internal flocking is starting to come unglued near the mount. There is a visible whiteness to it.

I got a really good deal on the lens, but I’m concerned will continue to fray, and there could be some image degradation.

I haven’t seen any posts anywhere about internal flocking of lenses.

Any thoughts?

Be extremely wary about trying to glue anything in the presence of optics. Glues, by their vary nature, outgass and this outgassing substance will do nothing positive for the optics.

The degradation of the flocking is "out of the optical" path the light takes, so it may look a little rough but it is unlikely to harm any photo taken wide open, and it will not harm any photo when any stopping down has been applied.
