Re: Upgrade suggestion from Stylus 1
Guess I'm a traitor also. I have a Panasonic ZS100, and it is what I consider a contender for the Stylus 1. But it has a 1" sensor which has some advantages over the 1/1.7" in the stylus. And I also have several small 1/2.3" sensor compacts, but not the one you reference, and use them and recommend them to others frequently also, but would never claim that I have found a 1/2.3" sensor compact that can compete IQ wise and handling with the Stylus 1. But also to second your recommendation, the availability of these cameras like the TZ90 you reference is much better and more likely to be available than a Stylus 1 and have more theoretical reach. I believe if one cannot find a Stylus 1, or a 1" sensor compact available for the dollars they have available, the 1/2.3" sensor compacts like the TZ90 should not be discounted as useless. Many are absolutely great. But in the context as an upgrade per this thread, not sure that would be the case. But certainly an alternative to. Add in edit: If I ever come across an FZ300 panasonic at a good price, I will probably grab it. I really would like to play with this one. It has the smaller sensor, but more optical zoom and still has the f2.8 advantage. I see some great stuff that has been shot with it. It might be the competition for the Stylus. Almost seems like Panasonic maybe stepped in where Olympus used to be in small longer zoom point and shoots. It's a shame, as I really like Oly, but that's corporate marketing decisions stepping in.
