For a while, I planned to get the the RF 50/1.8 stm. lately however, I’m leaning away from it. Against it is some sub par reviews, mushiness away from center, and it not being a zoom*. For it are cost and aperture **. So talk me into or out of it…

*Been shooting primarily primes on Fuji for the last decade. Being in a wheel chair while shooting, I’ve found zooms much more convenient. I currently have the RF 24-105L & RF 100-400.

**It’s hard to beat $200 but if I never use it then it’s still a waste. However, having nothing less than f4 is new to me.

i don't own this lens, but i'd buy it for 1 and only 1 reason, it's size.

the r5/r6 are such light and compact bodies, and some of us (i for one...) don't utilize that side of them, as we couple them with big heavy (excellent...) lenses.

i don't have a problem lugging around my 28-70 or 70-200 all day, IF i know i'm going to see something, if i don't, i'll most likely leave them and the camera at home, had i owned one of these nifty (well not so nifty...) fifties i'd be able to carry my camera along to just about anywhere and get the shots i wasn't necessarily expecting to get (which are often the best ones...).

the saying goes "the best camera is the one you have on you", i say "the best lens is the one that will make your camera remain on you".

if you're looking for optical excellence however, look elsewhere...
