I retouch a lot less, am I getting better or lazier?

In the old days, I used to spend a lot of time doing retouching, especially I remember retouching eyes on every single portrait or photo (that had eyes). But also other things, like adding higlights to hair and removing wrinkles etc.

These days, I find I don't bother. I can't remember the last time I retouched an eye, even for a headshot.

I wonder why this is. I am of two minds. The optimist says hey I am getting better at getting it right in the camera so retouching isn't that important and also my style is evolving towards more natural.

The pessimist is saying that hey you are getting lazy, and older so your eyes don't work as well (I am losing vision in my right eye according to my eye doctor), and lots of famous photographers do extensive retouch.

I wonder which of me is right?
