A couple pro photographers view on M43/OM-1
17

Recently I was at a sporting event and had the opportunity to spend some time with a couple syndicated pro photographers. I asked them if they ever considered using M43, specifically the new OM-1 along with the 150-400mm + TC1.4. Their short answer was "never." They gave several reasons, too small body, not enough button customization, too small sensor, lenses, high ISO quality. Both agreed that although it may be a fine amateur enthusiasts camera/ system, it's not close to becoming a choice they would consider.

Example they gave of just one of many reasons was it's [OM-1] inability to get acceptable results in bad lighting. Cited their cameras had to shoot in terrible lighting not just bad but terrible and that often for their purposes the best photos were found in the worst light.

One photographer was younger, perhaps late 30's the other a crusty old guy in his 60's and interestingly both had almost the same viewpoints and both worked for different agencies. Pro support or lack thereof was also mentioned as a big factor, however muted because they didn't think the camera was worthy to be considered. They were also especially critical of the fully articulating screen which they said was ridiculous! Said they saw a screen [fully articulated] ripped off the body of a camera one time when the photographer tried to shoot above a crowd but the brand was not mentioned.

They did qualify that their opinions were based upon feedback from other pros and with some inspection of the specs online. What did seem to resonate throughout our discussion was "never." It was an interesting and enlightening conversation to get sports pro photographers take on M43/OM-1.
