Panasonic G85 - struggling with video light settings, pics

My DSC ZS-60 gave up the ghost, and I decided to get a entry level big boy camera as it seemed about time.

The G85 seemed like a good choice, so I settled on that.

First try for video - took to a band rehearsal room that is dark, but not pitch dark. I've had decent results with the ZS-60 in there taking video. The G85 was absolutely pitch dark and would not track right. The sound came out good but the video was almost invisible.

In general, everything I shoot so far (video and photos) turns out on the dark side, only good outside in the sunlight. Even the automated settings are not doing well inside the house.
I could use some pointers, if you get a chance as the way it looks right now, either I have a dud or maybe I need a simpler camera as I don't know what I am doing.

ANSWER:
Panasonic G85
