Medium format and fast-moving kids

I love the look of medium-format film. But my main photographic subject is my family, which includes a super-energetic three-and-a-half-year-old. Last year, I bought a Yashica Mat 124g. Let's just say that my toddler and my TLR were not a workable combination!

I've been thinking that I want to try again, maybe with a medium-format rangefinder. I shoot a lot of 35mm using a Leica M2, and so rangefinders make sense to me. But is the whole idea far-fetched? There's less depth of field, the cameras are heavier . . . . Maybe 35mm is a more logical format for me right now.

What MF camera would you recommend, if any, for someone who wants to take pictures of a fast-moving kid?
